Dr Stephanie Wong is Research Assistant Professor at the Department of Social Work and Social Administration, The University of Hong Kong. She obtained her PhD in Psychiatry in 2022 at The University of Hong Kong exploring the role of population-level stressors and their interactions with personal risk and protective factors in mental disorders, particularly on symptoms of depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, and psychosis.

As a youth herself during the time of extensive societal changes in Hong Kong, she developed a large-scale online mental health risk detection/self-help tool in 2020 together with not only clinicians and researchers but also other young people. The tool has since accumulated over 80,000 responses, with its data providing new insights into how societal changes can interact with personal-level factors in affecting the mental health of our youth population and informing new intervention targets.

The work resulting from her roles as a core researcher of the first household-based youth epidemiological study (HK-YES), a territory-wide integrated youth-friendly wellness centres project (Levelmind@JC), and several regional and international research collaborations further led to award recognitions from SIRS and AsCNP.

In a committee member of the IAYMH, she hopes to bridge between academia, clinicians, and young people and further contribute to youth mental health research, practice, and policy, as well as advance youth-involved initiatives at an international level.
